I vote nickel silver as I don't see how any amount of polishing could make zinc shine like that, but you definitely want some opinions other than mine as I could be wrong.

Hi guys, could indeed be nickel silver, these new closeups admittedly makes it look like that rather than Zink.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks again for all the great input on this thread.

Can you guys give me more info about this maker and what it means to find one in neusilber?

I have the 2014 edition of Sascha Weber's book but can't find it in there as I am not a German speaker and the book is not indexed. Although I guess that Schickle was an unknown maker at the time of publishing.

Yeah I am doing my best with an iPhone camera. What camera do you guys use to take good pictures? I want to get one but looking for something that is not bank breakingly expensive as I am not into photography in general.

I would recommend a Nikon mirror reflex camera with standard 18-55 optics.

If it is just to use for medals i would buy a scanner instead of a camera. You can get one much cheaper than buying a camera.

                Hi Kryptos

…...I've been acquiring used Fujifilm point and shoot cameras in the 14-16mp range, off of ebay, for years now, and they perform excellently. I look for them in the $10-20 price bracket. New, they run over $100. You may have to buy a SD card, but they are cheap too and some cameras will come with one. Make sure the camera is supplied with the USB cable, or pass on it if you decide to try your luck. The last Fuji I bought was 4 years ago and it still works fine. The other three I own I have had for 4-12 years and they also perform excellently. One of them is in the glove box of my pickup. It doesn't hurt to add a small tripod as well. And....If you decide a camera is too much hassle....you're not out much $, and they do make good gifts. Rechargeable AA batteries are the way to go with these small devices. The thing I really like about them is that they are portable(not much larger than a pack of smokes, though heavier) and indispensable when out and about. Not to mention they take outstanding pictures.

                Happy collecting!

                  Thanks everyone!

Gonna check out which one of these options works best. I am a little loathe to spend hundreds of euros on a DSLR though as I do not do much other photography and find that a little much for a medal every month or so. If that was not the case it would have been the winning option for sure!

So it will probably be one of the other options.
