Hi Adinsx,
With Souval its hard to draw a definiative line between wartime and postwar because of their notorious postwar activities punching out souveniers for many decades after the war, using wartime dies and hardware. But yours example is pretty cut and dry IMO, postwar fake.
It is a 2nd pattern Souval clasp body, but as you said the pin is not correct, definately not a type of pin used by Souval during the war. The hinge is also not correct, it is a cheap hollow hinge, also not used by Souval wartime. The catch appears to be glued on as well, and the backplate is not original to the clasp (Souval was well known for deforming their backplates when crimped in during the war, and yours has no such marks, it is clearly a replacement or just glued in place).
At best, the clasp itself is a wartime leftover planchet that was crudely finished after the war for souvenier hungry GIs. Or simply a 100% postwar creation made with the original 2nd pattern Souval die (which no doubt survived the war).
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II
