William, et. al.,
Three thousand dollars for this badge, in my opinion, is a price that is too good to be true. It's meant to appeal to the 'oh, what a great deal' shoppers. BEWARE. If this badge was a real one, the price would be closer to $10k.
These gold badges with the top hook, were presented, mit etui, by Hitler, Himmler, and Guderian (sp?). I think the number of presentation CCCs was around 100. I may be wrong on that number. The authority on these badges is Manfred Dorr. He wrote a superb book on these clasps, and I think a second revised version is in the works.
The black back plate on these badges is secured with a single rivet. The badge you presented shows crimp marks, securing the plate. Totally wrong. These special CCCs were made only by Juncker, but no MM is on the badge. I think we all agree that CCCs are only made of zinc. However, the presentation clasp is made of Buntmetal, with gold plating, not a wash, as you find on the regular CCCs. You will find CCCs with a gold wash, but they are not the special presentation pieces.
Here are some images you can use for comparison.
regards,
Mark
