    bronze GABs

    Hi guys,

I would like to share my small collection of bronze GABs with you.
At the moment I have 3x GABs from Petz & Lorenz and 1 from GWL.
Two of the P&L are identical and one has another setup.

I hope you like them and opinions are welcome!

      Hi Sven,

All 4 very nice and quite rare to find with bronze finish like this. Its still a bit of a mystery as to what they bronze GABs were for and why they left the factory with a bronze finish when there is no wartime regulation for a bronze grade GAB.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Hello there want to say they look vary nice and I hate to put a sediment of doubt. I have one similar and learned along time ago that it’s a reproduction from the 1950’s

          Hi guys,

thanks a lot for your comments - very much appreciated!!!

@Faz73: I don't know where you learned that these bronze GABs should be reproductions from the 1950's, but in my opinion it's just wrong, because some time ago we found a small GWL hoard and there also was a bronze GAB included.
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&highlight=gwl There is no doubt about this hoard find and it was produced during war time for sure.
Also if you have a look on the P&L GABs, they are 100% identical to the silver grades and the bronze finish is exakt the same one you can find on the bronze P&L IABs.

In my opinion they were produced 100% before 1945, we just don't know why. They still are a mysery for sure, but if you think a little bit about it, there could be some easy explanations. Maybe some makers thought after the instituion of the bronze IABs that the bronze GABs will be instituted as well and they already produced some examples to be ready for a quick delivery. Maybe some makers were confused about the award - the words Sturmabzeichen and Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen are not that much different. Maybe it was just a fault of an employee who put them into the wrong finish. Maybe there are other reasons, we just don't know for sure, but I have absolutely no doubt about their originality.

              Hello there,

Well that one you show is indeed a well-known fake The badges shown by Sven are not the same as yours.

              Best regards,

                Hi Sven,

Very nice GABs. Your thoughts about these badges with a bronze finish make complete sense and I have always thought the same. A production mystery that is most likely the result of manufacturer anticipation or simply a mistake.

                Best regards,
                Tom

                  Hi Faz73,

thanks for posting your examples. As Tom already said it's a cast fake and it has nothing to do with the bronze examples I've started the thread. To be honest I'm even not sure if your example should be a bronze grade or if the silver finish has just darkened, but I'm 100% sure that it is a fake.

@Tom: Thanks a lot for your kind comment! I'm happy that you like them!!!
