Yes, a known original variant. Not very common, but not rare either.

Well for starters there are already B&NL-marked GABs that have a completely different design than this GAB you are showing.

Secondly, the catch itself is round wire, which was used by many GAB makers, so its really impossible to narrow down a maker based simply on the catch.

To connect a badge positively to a maker, we would need to see several connection points. Not just a single catch or a hinge or a pin, etc. Its typically a combination of these items that can point to a certain maker.
