    Nickel Silver hollow Wurster PAB

    Hi Guys,

Just getting organized a bit after Stuttgart and managed to scan some of the PAB's I managed to bring back.

I'll start with the most spectacular discovery of all and I'm still feeling extremly privelegde that I was able to add this PAB to my collection. In all honesty I have to admit that I didn't find it myself in Stuttgart but that a very very dear friend brought it along as a surprise.

And a surprise it indeed was even in a much bigger way than he had noticed himself. As all of you PAB collectors out there are aware, the Silver Buntmetall hollow Wurster together with his massive brother are the unicorns amongst PAB's. Everybody know's they existed but only a hand full of people actualy ever saw one in real life.

Now for the big discovery the Buntmetall Hollow Wurster is in fact a NICKLE SILVER made PAB just like it's early Porsche brother with which it shares many design features. Apart from this amazing discovery this PAB to me also proofs that Wurster at least used a third die for the production of these early hollow badges. Fairly recent we discovered this 3 pattern and in the meantime I also was able to find the bronze hollow counterpart with this pattern. It's interesting to notice that the heavy (20+ grams) hollow bronze Wursters seem to feature this 3 pattern and that at the same time the nickle silver badge also fits the heavy weight category.

Think I talked enough and better show you the beauty. You will notice a big difference in color between the obverse and reverse. This is easely explained by the fact that the obverse is cleaned and the reverse isn't. Just to make sure that it was just patina I rubbed the reverse a little which explains the brighter spots under the patina. Just Like it's nickle silver Porsche brother this badge never received any finish. What you see is the polished base metal.

    Enjoy

        Philippe,
That's a killer PAB! I am sure that it is the base metal (nickle silver) as you say. It's just that on my monitor it still looks to be a plated badge. Congratulations on obtaining a badge that most of us (PAB collectors) have never seen let alone will ever find.

Knew you guys would appreciate this one. The quality of this badge is really amazing and even superior to the Porsche. Didn't think I would ever write this.

Anyway in the end the Porsche wins on points due to the fact that its design and detaling is more sophisticated then that of the Wurster.

Hello Philippe, I must agree with you on this--but it may only be because I do own a "Porsche" and can only hope to find this Wurster to sit besides my KW zincers.Truly a beautiful badge!!
                      Regards,
                      Steve
