Very interesting badge. Yeah, I'd opine that the soldier repaired it at some point, possibly after the war but appears to be an old repair and collectors would not have bothered back then. They would have gotten another badge that wasn't broken.

terrible condition... I like such badges and I consider them with sort of character but this one is somehow ruined IMO

AGREED, a fine original Juncker that has seen its share of the action. The type of ugly repair is completely what I would expect from "period done" by the soldier and the denazification also lends alot of credibility to this being a cherished award by the soldier. Nice piece of history.
