    Hey John, do you happen to have a side shot of the edge of the badge? Not seeing CuPal myself based off these 2 pics.

        This badge weighs 32.72 grams. What raises my interest are the raised areas at the cutouts and the somewhat sloppy solder area at the hinge. I have added side pictures so if it is cupal it was plated after it was punched out. The catch has no base plate.

          Not a CupAl. It's unknown maker #14. Not rare, but uncommon.

            Hi John,

            Do wait for the pros but IMO;

            - At 32.72 gr it appears heavy for a cupal piece
            - Cupal badges usually have "crimped" (like alu) or "plate mounted" hardware (hinge & catch)
            - Your edge photo doesnt show the demarcation where the copper layer stops & the alu core starts
            - Front picture doesnt show silver or coppery toned metal showing through worn finish but does look like toned zink
            - Some earlier zinkers do have a thin copper plating under the silvering which gives the medal yellowish/tombac undertones which can be misleading

            I dont have a cupal GAB but attached a cupal luft eagle with demarcation & plate mounted hardware & a copper coated Ostfront compared to a regular zinker both in similar shape

            Best regards

            JC

              Yeah, as stated I think the copper coating is making it look deceiving. Some badges are harder than others to notice, best way to tell is looking at the edge for the pink hue and the very lightweight feeling it will have. Here is the edge of a CuPal badge that was hard to notice on the front view.

              Oh yeah, nice GAB!

                Hi John,

                Its a typical Zink badge, not Cupal. You can see the dark grey zink base metal showing on the worn areas of the obverse. Also notice the bubbling of the finish in some areas, which is indicative of zink, not cupal. And the weight is much too heavy; a cupal badge would be half that weight.

                Tom
                If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                  Thank you everybody that responded. The nice finish and some of the details threw me on this one,
