No expert on these so I cant speak about authenticity but IMIO (In My Ignorant Opinion) it looks like a SUPERb GAB Gary. Love the design/detail and the frosted silver finish with the polished highlights
I have one silly question, would be possible to "refinish" awards like GABs and ISAs?
Not suggesting thats what happened here, its meant in general.
All the best.
Hi,
well I believe you can. But it is a very complicated proces.
I have worked in a company that used that proces for contacttips of capacitors and keramic tips, often used in airbags.
The proces is done in a very big machine (4 by 4 meters). In the middle of the machine there is a cilinder. In the cilinder you have to put the basematerial (we used pure gold and silver. In this proces (I can't tell excactly how it happens), the core (basematerial) vaporize on the product leaving a very micro thin layer material behind.
This proces can also be done with other basematerials.
To bad I worked there long ago and so I couldn't test this on a badge.
I can tell you for sure it can be done on almost all products.....

Hi Kray
Thank you for your answer, just saw it now.
Thats very interesting, I guess everything can be done if there is a will and knowledge (plus resources).
One of my clients is jeweller, I showed him (only on the web though) some awards and asked how hard it would be for him to duplicate or freshen up, now I dont know how much he realizes the depth of the study collectors posses about materials, methods ect, but I must say I didnt like his answer.
