    New PAB arrival

    Gentlemen,
As Greg would say, "here is my newest addition to the motor pool". It appears to be a B.H. Mayers with a earlier hinge/pin set up than what has been previously posted.

                  Morning Chet,

Indeed a nice example but for sure not an early BH Mayer/F&R PAB.

This is not a buntmetall but a feinzink PAB and it's difficult to find this type in halfway decent condition. I'll have a look in my files this evening to see if I can find an example with that type of hinge. In relation to the catch I'm quite confident that this is a war time replacement. As far as I know this question marked catch was never used on these PAB's.

Chet just for the record could you provide us with the measurement of that badge.

                      Morning Chet,

Well the clue Like I expected is in the weight here. This is a very uncommon BH Mayer feinzink badge and the first I see that didn't receive the frosted finish.

When you compare these badges to what I believe to be the Frank & Reif made hollow zinc badges the weight is the big giveaway. 14 to 16 for F&R with a low quality finish and 20 to 22 for the high qaulity BH Mayer product.

Problem for me when I saw you badge is that the 3 heavy hollow zinc BH Mayers I ever had the opportunity of handling always were in mint condition and I couldn't really see what the base material was. In fact for a long time I believed them to be buntmetall badges. In the meantime I found out that they are indeed made of zink as is clearly visible on your badge too.

So what you found IMO is this badge but with a normal finish and a variant hinge.
