            Hi,

The reverse looks similar to an F.W. Assmann set-up. Just curious would there happen to be an Assmann marker mark in the middle of the rifle on the reverse.

Now for my other comment which concerns the front of the badge. It lacks several defined details that should be present on this piece.

            With medals details mean everything.

            Regards,
            Tim

I think it's original, although not in the best conditions.
The lack of details may be due to some corrosion.

Original Assmann in bad conditon IMO
The Assmann mark is there in het center of the rifle

                    Hello

                    This example is a fake.

It has a Post War Souval obverse (note the missing leaf between the sling and kar98k) and a recessed reverse similar to the Assmann examples along with the "A" maker mark.

Here is one from my catalog of fakes to compare.

                    Best Regards, fischer

I can only agree, a nicely aged fake that can fool even experienced collectors. Especially if viewed at a show with notoriously poor lighting.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
