In my previous post I was unable to post pics because I had not become an Associate Member. Anyway, a member of the forum was kind enough to allow me to email him pictures so he could evaluate the badge. The verdict is that the badge, unfortunately, is a replica. Here's the curious thing... Although this badge was a gift, I know that it was purchased from the Danville Tank Museum in Virginia. Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting the museum sold this item as a known fake. I believe them to be good, honest people.
At any rate, perhaps posting these pictures will further assist new collectors in spotting a reproduction. This "variation" might already be well documented but perhaps some of you seasoned collectors would still be willing to chime in and pinpoint the faults that separate this item from an authentic example. The gentleman that evaluated the item was kind enough to mention specific details such as an incorrect hinge and bad details on the reverse - stating fusion bubbles were visible. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure what fusion bubbles are so I'll have to look into that further.

The crude hinge and catch on the reverse are dead giveaways.
