    German WWII Medals - Authentic?

    Hi guys,

Recently Ive been offered these items by a man who claims they were all captured during the war. You know how those stories go.

Anyways the SS medal I thought was reproduction because of the ring. The buckle and KVK looks fine to me. The rest Im not so sure of.

Anyways just looking for second opinions if its worth my time to try and pick this grouping up. Or if you thought any of the pieces were good or bad.

    I really appreciate the help!

    William

          Hi William,

I like everything except for the SS 12-Year Long Service Cross. That one is clearly a fake. The 1939 EK1 looks like it has bee repaired.

          Best regards,
          Tom

            Hi Tom,

Thanks for giving your opinoin. On the EK1 where do you think it has been repaired?

            I really appreciate it!

              Hi William,

Looks to me like the obverse and reverse frames were separating and someone re-soldered them. Reverse image seems to show areas of new solder and some dripping at the lower left.

              Best regards,
              Tom

Oh wow Tom, thank you for pointing that out to me! I did not notice this.

                I really appreciate the help!

Completely agree with everything here, SS medal stands out as a bad fake.
Typical collection IMO with a fake or two almost always finding their way in.
Some of the vets were given medals postwar by friends and such.
                  Nice haul anyway,
                  Eric

                    I agree with Tom's and Eric's comments.

I have no guidance for the cloth items, but most items, including the belt buckle and booklet have a nice aged apearance, plus the ribbons on the medals and bars look ok to me.
Good eyes Tom on the EK1

                    regards
                    Graeme
