    Opinions of G.B.42 GAB

Hello.I bought this badge several years ago and have been wondering if it is o.k. or not.Other badges by this maker have what looks like the same set-up.This badge just looks too new.I imagine if it is o.k., it would be late war.Any opinions appreciated. Thanks,Darrick

From the front it looks the same as mine, which is a known original by an unknown maker, the back of mine however does not have a maker mark, and it has a different hinge and catch.

        Hi Darrick,

There exist good copies of this GB 42 GAB's but after looking at the obverse pick you posted I'm confident that you are the lucky owner of a very nice original.

Since it is a zinc badge these are at best mid war badges. Especialy in this case it's quite easy to date isn't it. The die was made in 1942, hence the maker mark, so manufactured in 1942 or later

            Hi Greg,

Why don't you post a picture of your badge, if it's the same it should be made by G.B. too

Darrick, the back is even minter than the obverse, lovely example.

When I'm looking at mine now in these pics beside Darricks, I am seeing a few little differences, such as the detial on the grib of the bayo.

                      Hi Greg,

Your correct thats a different maker. The maker is unknown and the same one that made the notorious flatback PAB's

I have a rookie question for you.Did this maker stamp different years in it's maker marks? Regards,Darrick

                          Hi Darrick,

No he didn't, and the same goes for the few other makers (e.g. AWS 1942 or FLL 43, Shuco 41) known to have done this. In fact we don't know it for sure but I think most of us would agree that these dates most likely represent the year in which the die was made.

@Darrick: nice original and in exceptionally good condition. I have just updated a recent thread on a G.B.42 fake with pictures what to look for in the fake.
                            Cheers, Frank
