    Missing Hardware Question

    Hi

I recently visited an antique store with a vendor selling TR Militaria. I noticed there were several badges; a couple IAB's, a PAB and a couple GAB's all with missing hardware.

My question is if this is common with these badges or maybe either just earlier or just later ones? They were all at a reduced price as they should have been but something didn't seem quite right having several different badges with the same type of defect...

Maybe I'm wrong and he found a dealer with a lot of broken ones to sell cheap?

Could be a lot of reasons why this particular individual accumulated so many. Perhaps he was able to buy them for cheap or perhaps he already sold the more desirable pieces that were still intact. Trust your gut and look closely at them.

We see later pieces come apart more easily with the lower grade metals although early badges were not excluded from being ripped off of clothing and broken.

Went to see a collection of 30-40 badges years ago all the mounts were missing, the collector(?) had removed them to mount them flat on a board.

Ahh both good points, I have seen both cases of medals being ripped of uniforms and also modified for displays. Thanks.
