    GAB opinion

Recently picked this up off of the e-stand. Appears to be a GWL with a broken catch. I would like to know if replacing the catch would hurt the value even more. Opinions are welcome.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Nice original GWL, quite a rare GAB to find. I personally wouldn't repair it, the value will not increase by doing that and you can risk ruining it further by destroying what is left of the fragile finish.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

IMO yes the value would decline. These badges often lost their hooks/needles during battle or when taken capture and being ripped of the uniform by allied soldiers for souveniers. But I respect if you wish to restore it for your own happines

      Cheers Thomas

        Hi Chris,

I think it's up to you if you are going to replace the catch. But from my point of view it definitly won't increas the value of the badge.

I have an nice IAB having the same issue like your badge. I decided to leave it as it is because it is a part of its history. But that's just a personal thing.
        Kind Regards
        Bosse

I would rather have one in my collection with broken catch then one with restored catch....
I wouldn't touch it if it was mine.

Thanks for all of the input! I'll keep it the way it is to make sure that I don't ruin it.

            Regards,
            Chris
