Has my bronze RSS iab the correct needle?

    Hi,

is this the correct needle? It is not magnetic and much brighter than the catch and the hinge (nearly silver). And the needle is curved near the hinge. Most of the
RSS iabs have a straight needle.

I can´t see any signs of a repair.

I think, that here are some iab experts. Do you need better pics?
Or is it really not possible to judge this needle?

    Best regards

Compared with those in my collection (solid and hollow examples) the needle looks legit to me.

You are correct, the ones I have seen are straight and not curved at the hinge. Also, the part of the needle that wraps around the hinge is usually flat on the sides while yours appears to be totally round. Finally, your needle is has long, sharpened end, while most I've seen are just clipped at the end and either completely unsharpened or, when sharpened, the point is not so long and tapered.

This is just my assessment on your badge's needle versus others I saw in a search here on the forum. Just because it differs in the minor details doesn't necessarily mean it isn't original to the badge. Makers used a variety of needles pins that don't always completely match (even from the same maker), and I see no signs that the ball hinge was messed with or that the cross pin holding the long pin in place was removed and replaced.

              Hello Thorsten
I understand your concerns, I have only one ISA by RSS and it has the straight pin and it's flattened where the part of the needle wraps around the hinge.

I agree with Dale, there could be some differences when it comes to the minor details, but I do not know for sure.

                Hi Olaf and Dale,

that´s exactly what I meant. Needle not flat at the sides and curved
near the hinge and a bit longer and sharp at the end.

I hope, that some other collectors have a RSS with the same type
of needle and can show it here.

                  Hi Thorsten

......The pin may be a replacement, but it certainly doesn't diminish the fact that the IAB itself is a nice TR era badge. One will never know if it was replaced during or after the war. IMO that doesn't really matter. But, I'm not a purist where every little thing has to be as it came from the factory. Things happen. Pins break, hooks snap off. Oh well.
