    I would expect the golding to be more shiny. It might that has been refinished

      This badge is original.

      Concerning the finish, in my experience with these badges the Gold finish varies a fair amount, depending upon the base metal (bunt metal or zinc), how much the badge was worn, storage, etc.

      There is a Gold zinc example on Weitze's site, ITEM# 60833, where the finish is dull and about 50% of the finish has been absorbed by the zinc.

          Here are 3 Gold Horse Rider Badges for comparison:

          NOTE the different finishes.

          Left 2 examples are by L. CHR. LAUER.

          Center example is marked "800" for gold content (just below the horse's hind leg.)

          Right example is by STEINHAUER & LUCK - The obverse finish is strong but on the reverse you can clearly see the gold fading on the zinc base.
