Looks very good to me. The silver finish is nicely intact for a zinker, and nicely worn condition. The pin is replaced as you know, but catch is textbook Assmann. Nice example.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I once had an Assmann PAB exactly like yours. Mine was in same condition, maybe a little greyer on the reverse, but had the original pin still. I sold it years ago. Now, looking at yours I'm really regretting selling mine..

Yes, judging by the grey areas peeping through the finish on the obverse, in particular the tank barrel and treads. Why, does it look different in hand?

Hi Tom,
Look at the attachment of the hinge and pin. There are no plates, both hinge and catch are attached directly to the badge. I had assumed the silver showing through might indicate a Cupal badge (as as been stated by ryuuk).
The finish on my badge is identical (color wise) to the one shown by ryuuk and not a silver as my photos show.
I also think that it has good chanses to be cupal. The silvering is more corresponding for early cupal version, and looks like I can see some brown color on the track highlights.
Anyway, it's a super badge! Great design and perfomance

Hi Gary,
Assmann didn't use hinge and catch plates on their zink PABs. They are one of the rare makers that didn't use plates on their hardware, at least on their early, hollow PABs. So we can't use that as a judge unfortunately.
Can you post a scan of the obverse, rather than a photo? Scans tend to bring out the true colors of the badge. If it were Cupal, I would expect the base metal showing through to be reddish/brown and not silver like we see here. Especially on the tank barrel, I clearly see grey. If it were cupal, then we should be seeing reddish/brown from the copper layer IMO.
