    A pair of NS IABs....

    Hi guys....

A slow Friday so I had a chance to get out this pair of nickle silver IABs.

I'm not up to date with the latest definitions of identification but at some point these were identified as Juncker made. Is that correct?

One is silver and the other a bronze badge.

    All comments are welcome. Thanks!

    Enjoy.

    Tony

      Hi Tony!

Both are super nice silver grade, but right is more patinated. Bronze Juncker IABs were made of zink only, as far as I know.

One received a finish and the other left in its nickel silver finish.

Both silver grades IMO. What is the flaw on the Swaz on the first one? Any chance of a better look at it. Stewy

            I'm not so sure.
The silver one does have a frosted or applied finish. This remains on on the reverse as well as the crevasses.
The bronze one also has a bronze finish to it. It looks purposely applied and does not match any patina to on I have ever seen on nickle silver. As I said the bronze is a 'finish' versus patina. Also, it's not a paint. Acetone does not affect it.
There still is so much we do not know,.
            There lies the dilema.

I won't be at the MAX but I do set up at the SOS. I will bring the badges with me If anyone wants to see for themselves 'in hand' as we say.

I'm fairly convinced, that finding a real bronze finished NS Juncker IAB would be like a revolution in a collector society

I also have an NS juncker, and in some kind of light it's patina also looks brownish

By the way, that's an interesting thread with great pictures. But all badges a silver grades, it is patina.

                Hi Tony,

Both very nice, early Juncker IABs, just gorgeous.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                  I like them both irregardless.

One of the things I adhere to in collecting is never say never and never say always. That way you minimize being totally wrong in either aspect.

Case in point......the dotted date DKs, long held to be fake til a mint example turned up in a Klesshiem hoard find.

I will bring them to the SOS for further thoughts ....in hand inspection is always prefered.

                  All the best.

                    Thanks Tom!
I've had these quite a while. My favorites.

Two very nice examples and my opinion is as Stewy stated, both are silver grade.

I have seen the referred flaw on other examples and speculate it occurred during the removal of the material between the swazy and the kar98k rifle.

                        Best Regards, fischer

Thanks for solidarity, Fisher. But a small remark - I slightly outruned Stewy and was first who said that

Sorry for the oversight...you are correct and I should have credited your analysis...
