SS Fliegerabzeichen - real or not?

    Hello all,

I can't seem to find any info on this SS Fliegerabzeichen badge. Were these real?

    Thanks,
    Mil

I'd say that's a fantasy piece ... the border of the swastika is made to resemble that of an Iron Cross, that added to the overall design makes me very sceptical of it.

Do you have shots of the reverse hardware ?

      Hi Ian,

No i don't have shots of this particular piece. It comes from the net by chance. So these were never documented? THere was also a cloth version but there are pakistani fakes abound.

They are real and not fantasy pieces. One was found at the site that was an airfield in the early 1930s. It is an early German flight badge and somewhat rare. I may have pictures of the ground dug example that was in a few pieces. It is also in some early reference books but not positively identified. I have obtained at least one from a vet family.

Would a back shot be possible or would that tip off the fakers. If no is the answer, I understand. I also believe the badge is original, I have seen one in the past also.

I also agree that they are original wartime pieces.

I have no idea what the story is behind them.
