Legion Condor Tank badge

What do you think of this nice Tank badge Legion Condor?
What time period is it made?
Most thankfull for all help.

I have held this one this week at the W&P, it is a beautiful crafted badge.
The tombak peeps through with a little wear.
My understanding is its a S&L but timeframe I do not know.

Can't help you as i don't have much knowledge bout the subject.
Man to go should be member 'legion condor', who researched the subject and wrote a book last year.

These badges are a huge minefield. I would want some rock solid provenance before buying one, especially S&L with there doggy postwar history.

Although I always try to draw a line between my moderatorship and webshop, I feel like jumping in here. This badge is of course the piece I have for sale on Giel's Militaria and I feel like these poor pictures don't do much justice to it at all.

For me this is one of the most beautiful awards ever produced, so I tried to make some extra photos of this rare original bugger. Good to see that Greg and Andy still have a sharp eye

Text book original! The dead giveaway on ALL original LCTB's of this type is the missing portion of the main gun's barrel as seen from the reverse. If that flaw isn't there....it's bad.

That's an intriguing badge and not quite like any we've seen before. It certainly looks like wartime-compatible production, but it's different from the usual "S&L-like" (formerly "Wiedmann-like") badges that have generally been accepted as probably wartime produced private purchase badges, possibly by S&L.

The "S&L-like" badges have a slightly different obverse from this badge and come in two different setups based upon the type of catch, but neither is like the catch on this badge.

In fact, the obverse of that badge is closer to Gentry's mystery badge (seen here) which is quite similar to the "S&L-like" but different in the small details with a different setup. The catch is very similar on Gentry's as well.

So with that pin setup and obverse design, the badge in question appears like a "missing link" between these other two types. Very interesting and certainly worthy of more study.
