A Nice PAB Weekend, but What is This???

    Hi PAB fans,

Like Don D, I had a good weekend at a local show too. At least there were more real PABs than usual at this show, and I brought some home to help fill out the motor pool.

(Keep on scrolling down for the "what is this")

First off, a run-of-the-mill semi-hollow zinc "daisy" in bronze. I picked it up to upgrade.

A real purty (since it was from Floriduh) hollow Buntmetall "daisy" in bronze. Alas, broken catch!

And at the next table was his silver brother. Guess it was daisy weekend in Orlando. See the variant catch. Almost looks like a catchplate, but this is a Buntmetall badge.

And now, "what the heck is this?"

I can't recall seeing this type since this thread almost two years ago. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...+variant+catch

It's zinc with a dull silver finish, 60.2mm x 41.9mm, weight 15.6 g. The pin is magnetic; the hinge and catch are not. The hinge and catch appear to be a yellow metal with silver finish. It's vaulted, like Joe's in the other thread.

          What say ye?

Your hinge looks slightly different but otherwise spot on.

Jawohl, that looks like it with slightly different but same "pattern" hinge and catch. Do we know the maker of this type?

                        Thanks,

                            Dear Greg,

Well both you and Don for sure had a good WE. I'm still trying to find a first pattern hollow Buntmetall Bronze Daisy myself

The silver Daisy has an acceptable catch variant. Since this is the type of catch that was also sitting on the only zinc hollow 1 pat. Daisy it's a later variant that replaced the "C" hook.

The unknwon maker is also a variant I'm still missing. This design only seems to exist as a hollow zinc variant and is completely unique.

Interesting to note that the GAB of that maker ALSO exists only in hollow form. So we are looking at a maker who specialized in hollow zinc badges. Also his wound badges are hollow zinkers (1st pattern, Legion Condor style).
                              Cheers, Frank
