    WW2 Proficiency Badge

    http://www.gunbroker.com/item/560842778
I saw this on GB and wondered if it was any good. I have seen so many fakes over the years that it's hard to know what's real or not. This one seems cheap if real, thanks for any info on this and if you have a real one, please post some pictures . B

    Hello,

Sorry, but that one is a fake. It is made better than most of the other fakes of these but it is still not good. Probably a newer fake.

    Best regards,
    Tom

I am uploading a few of the images of this fake SS Proficiency Badge to the server so that this thread does not become useless when the link no longer functions.

      Best regards,

            Hi,

The fake GL presented here is amongst the easiest to spot, as the form of the branchs of the sunwheel is nothing like the one on originals.
And additionally there is too many other epic fails in the badge... Nothing is right, from the runes to the pin... It is almost a fantasy item.

            FRONT
            - sunwheel is soooo wrong in so many ways... No even close to the "common" fakes that are so much better,
            - the horizontal line of the runes is far too thick,
            BACK
            - the pins of the runes are nothing like the originals, and those pins are the first i saw with flat pins...
            - the pin and the catch are fantasy ones.

Please check pictures of the fake, and picture of an original, lot 4125, HH 63.

like i usually say, the only way - to date - to be sure that you may have an original Germanische Leistungsrune is to check the end of the branchs of the sunwheel.

If the ends are cut short, this is a fake.
To date, ALL the +30 types of fakes have this ugly flaw (not very visible on this fantasy fake, but as everything is bad, this is not very important).

There is around +20 topics on the GL on the WAF (please search "Germanische Leistungstune"), i posted a lot of "technical" pictures that will help the collector to avoid the fakes.

Please note that MANY of the features of the original badge are now well copied by the last generation of fakes. The main flaw of all the fakes is the sunwheel, especially the ends of the branchs.

Oh and to conclude, an original is having at least one more "zero" after the price proposed on this auction...

            See You

            Vince

Had a thought. How often do these come up for sale and for how much , today ? Thanks, B

                    Hi,

                    more visual infos.

Here is what i wanted to say about the fail in the "good" fakes.

The ends of the branches are cut short in all the very good fakes.

Please find the "best" fake so far, the said silver badge proposed during Von Morenberg 66 in October 2013.
Of course (too) many features are very wrong, but for the common collector, it is a very dangerous fake.

So you can see that the ends of the branches are cut short.

About the availability of the Germanische Leistungsrune, i will say that it is a very uncommon badge, with a value of around 4000-5000 euros (minimum). Maybe 1 to 2 per year ?
Only around 300 badges in silver and 900-1000 in bronze exist. And Loïc and I we identified only less than 40 since we started working on this badge.
Similar results as for other very rare awards (the Croix de Guerre Légionnaire for example).

                    See You

                    Vince
