    Close Combat Clasp Opinion Please

    Hello. I just bought this at an estate auction. It was mixed in with a bunch of jewelry in a jewelry box. The only other military item in the box was a piece of occupation currency. Opinions...Real? Looks gold to me, or is it bronze?
    Maker is Gablonz. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks-Jeff

      Late War

      I'm a helmet guy, so I'm hoping the badge collectors can help. I'm thinking this has the signs of being a late-war zinc piece????

          It's actually in pretty good shape I though. The pin and insert are intact, no breaks or cracks. The only issue is the finish which seems to be common for zinc badges to have their finish flaked or absorbed. It's not super pretty because of that, but I think it's right for a zinc. Fingers crossed at least!

              I know that odds are it's bronze, not gold, but just in case....here are some better pics in natural lighting, no flash.

                Hi Jeff,

                It looks to me like an original AGMuK Close Combat Clasp. IMO it's a bronze CCC.

                  Hi Jeff,

                  No doubts for me either, it is definitely an original clasp (Large Font AGMuK 1.1.1 in the CCC book). But due to the very bad storage conditions its impossible to say if its a true gold grade or a bronze example. We have seen it countless times before with ground dug AGMuK clasps, something in the damp conditions turns the bronze finish to gold appearance so I would say its a very good chance yours is a bronze grade.
