1st award given by nazi regime?

    Hi Guys,

What was the first award handed out by the Nazis? I would think the first war award would be given during the Spanish civil war. So an EK2 would be my guess but maybe a Spanish Cross? Was a civilian award instituited and awarded earlier than a war one (such as a mothers cross)?

    Thanks, Sal

    Hello

the spanish cross and the iron cross were instituted in 1939.

IMO the first award handed out by the nazis was the blood order in 1934.

The 1929 party day badge was elevated to award status at some point in the early years..do retroactive awards count?

wait, are you refering to wehrmacht awards, or Nazi political stuff?

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

1934 was the start of the "Hindenburg" crosses. Do they count Sal?

My thoughts too on the Hindenburg being first.

Then again, maybe the 9 November 1923 Gau Munich award though? Issued in 1933?

          What about Day Badges?

Well I was thinking of war (wermacht) awards or decorations. I wouldn't really count the hindenburg cross. I would guess an EK2? I was wondering if it is known who was the first soldier or group of soldiers to win an award or if that is known. I thought there might even be a piece with known provinance in some collection somewhere? This is turning up some interesting answers, thanks guys. Let me know if anyone can definitavly answer this.

Mark, can you tell me more about the day badge story? I know nothing about it.

              Thanks, Sal

I don't really know anything about the "flower wars" but would love to be educated, and I wouldn't really count long service awards. Combat awards really.

Always was curious what the flower awards were all about

They were the commemoratives awarded for the various prewar annexations (i.e. Austria, Sudetenland, etc.).

I don't know when the awards popped up, but the first of events being commemorated was in 1938.

                            Thanks Deitrich!

So I guess the Spanish cross would be the first combat award given then? Does anyone know if that is correct and who the first recipient was? Or group of recipients?

                            Best, Sal

(I am assuming those are the dates of institution but not awarding)
