    Infantry Assault Badge.

    Hi,
I have had this Zinc IAB for a While now,and wondered if anyone knows who the makers is,or,has any other opinions.
The catch has been repaired, but whether that is period is another thing!!
    Thanks for looking,Lynton.

              Dear Sven,

My hat off to you, you crazy German IAB collector

I think we must have discussed these badges a dozens times and altough it was right in front of us nobody ever made the connection. I even had the marked OM that I saved a long time ago from Yuri's IAB article in my files.

So many thanks for linking yet another unmarked IAB to it's correct maker.

This only leaves us with one other IAB, with visible K98 contours in the cut-out area, to identify.

              KR
              Philippe

PS: now I wonder which of my PAB's could be OM made and Frank probably can't sleep tonight wondering where the OM GAB might be

                Thanks to you Both..

                For your help..
So, What are the distinguishing features of IAB's made by OM?
Also,I take it from the replies that no-one knows who the Maker OM is then?

In your opinion, would you say that the catch has been repaired, and if so,would it be period or not?Just would be interestung to find out!

                Thanks again,Lynton.

Almost forgot, Lynton the catch has not been repaired, this is the typical solder job on these IAB. It looks like on yours the solder was torn open a little but as far as I'm concerned, not a repair.

                    Hi Lynton,

Your correct OM is an unknown maker

In relation to your first question focus on the following

                    1. In general the design of this IAB is unique with a very distinctive eagle head
                    2. The bayonet is very broad and completely flat
                    3. As I wrote above focus on the cut-out between rifle and swas from the reverse, you will notice that the contours of the K98 remain visible. As far as I'm aware this is a feature that only 2 original IAB's show.

                      Thanks Phillippe..

Now you have pointed those features out, they are quite visible! The eagles head on this IAB is one of my favorites I would say!Even though the badge is devoid of any finish!
The way that the solder is torn out is what made me think that it had been repaired, and with out too much care. It's interesting to know that it's not repaired after all!Does the solder protruding ofter happen?
                      Thanks,Lynton.

                          Hi Lynton,

Here is my unmarked "OM" (an hour ago it still had a nickname). As you can see the catch is soldered on in exactly the same way. Always had a softspot for the eagle on these badges myself
