    Followup: Glider Badge

    Hi:
    Hopefully this link will show both sides of the badge. Late war , both parts appear to be cast with an flaws on the reverse of the wreath. Does anyone happen to know who the maker might be? Got it from a German dealer.
    Thanks,
    Steve

          Glider badge

          Hello,

          Thanks for adding additional pictures, i must say that there are a couple of things that would bother me with this badge ( as far as i can see it offcoarse ) , the C catch + the needle system is not of a type i have encountered before , The rivets seems also a little big for this badge , am i mistaking that the eagle's beak has a hook kinda structure ? , how is the eagle detailed , especially the ehad ? , etc ... => once again i wil have to ask a detailed picture from the following area's :

          * Eagle ( front )
          * Rivets
          * needle system
          * C - catch

          Another thing that jumps in my mind is the tarnisched look ? are those just the pictures ? , what kind of material is your badge made from ? ,etc ...

          There must be answered a whole lot of questions before one can make up his opinion ( yes and the comments are always just opinions, not proven facts ! ) , im trying to help as much as i can

          Cordial Greetings,

          Those could help a lot ,

            Reply with more picture

            I have added detailed pictures of the badge onto the URL above. It is not clear what kind of metal the badge is made of. Soem kind of low grade metal. It is not lead and is very strong. There is black stuff in some of the areas of the badge. I have not tried to clean it. The beak has the same appearence as the beak on the Glider Badge on the Wehrmacht website.
            Thanks,
            Steve

              glider badge

              Hello,

              Thanks for giving these detailed pictures , it gives a better sight towards the badge => there are however some minors looking at the revers of your badge that would be enough for me not to buy this badge .

              The rivets are not typical Juncker IMHO ( certainly not for a gliders badge ) , they are to fat and they remind me on the rivets i have seen before on another glider badge ( with certificate of originality !!! ) marked for the firm of Junckers but was defenatly a nono ( = no good badge )

              For me personally the needle , c - hook , etc .. are also not typical and are something i have not seen before ( but these could be war time repairs !!! => im not convinced of the originality on your badge , does the eagle's eye has a pupil ? , can you make a very clear close up from the eagle's head ? the beak area etc ...

              From what i have seen for now i would not buy the badge but i await a fruther detailed picture .

              The Firm of Junckers was certainly not the only one to produce such badges ( it is true that they produced the marked & unmarked badge as probably also the large eagle variant ) , another manufacture that can be found is BSW ( Bruder schneider / Wien ) , they also produced a marked and unmarked piece !!! , there where probably also other producers involved but there is no proof at this moment for this.

              Cordial Greetings,

                This Glider Pilot Badge certainly looks like a C E Juncker: similar obverse eagle and wreath characteristics.

                Looking at the hinge assembly, though, it resembles a type of hinge found on mid-war Juncker badges made of feinzink, a barrel hinge with an oblong base for a stronger soldered joint. So I do not understand why this hinge is mounted on what seems to be an additional base plate.

                The GPB is widely faked and fakes range from bad to very convincing indeed. If there is any doubt at all over a badge, it is usually better not to buy it. Doubtful medals and badges rarely turn out to be original.

                Apart from anything else, expensive medals and badges should generally be examined in the flesh unless you really know the vendor or really know the subject and can be fairly sure that what you are buying, based on photos, is the real thing.

                Even then, the GPB is a very difficult badge. Perhaps one in ten offered is original. Probably one in twenty.

                  agree => rare bird

                  Hello,

                  I agree with Prosper in this regarding the rarity of the glider pilots badges , untill now i have been quite bussy with visiting ex glider pilots and i have never encountered the above hinge assembly, etc .... ( but that does not mean anything regarding the originality of this badge )

                  Altough the wreath etc .. looks good but such rarity's must be examined in the flesh as it is often with pictures that they do not show al the real details, etc ...

                  Another point that one has to be aware of is that these GPB ( Glider PIlot Badges ) has not being researched very well untill today , so alot is possible but does not mean that a badge is original => therefore stick with the known variants if you want a safe buy and be realistic , it is a rare thing ( and the dealers know it ) , so my advice do not expect to find a good one by a dealer for a ridiculous price and buy only if you are 100 % certain , otherwise stay away from it

                  Cordial Greetings, .
