Hi Rob,

Very nice 1st Pattern JFS. Not only is the first pattern rarer to find, yours is particularly nice and rarer because of the missing section of crimping for the catch. You only see that on about 10% of 1st Pattern JFS CCCs, so quite uncommon!

From what I can gather Early Gold clasps could be awarded by the Highest of Command or Generals and that if you got a CCC in Gold you also got given a German Cross in gold . So that must make CCC in Gold quite special not withstanding the 50 days of hand to hand with the Ruskees you had to put in . So there is quite a difference between Gold and Bronze . Rob

Because it is a first pattern, I would say light bronze.
