Heer Schützenschnur (Marksmanship Lanyard) - Grade 5

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for your generous time, and to all I've spoken to about this!

I'm considering purchasing this lanyard, and examples of this grade to compare it to have been harder to dig up than I expected. I was hoping to maybe get some opinions on this piece, and perhaps photos to compare it to if anyone is feeling generous. I think it's good, but I've found some convincing reproductions as well.

A question that was raised is the lack of protective ribbon backing, and I'm curious about the stamped looking edges around the swords.

    Thanks again everyone.

This is a fine original 5th grade lanyard. The lack of the protective strip on the back is fine and indicates an earlier production. Later directives from the Army mandated that new lanyards be manufactured with the protective strip and older lanyard be retro fitted with the strips. The strips were to prevent the lanyard from causing rub wear to the uniform.

Thanks Gary! I had read once about the lack of ribbon indicating earlier production, but wasn't sure if I should put much stock in that. Sounds like it bears truth after all.

WW2 German Army Schützenschnur Marksmanship Lanyard, Grade 1

Here is a nice picture of an early WW2 German Army Schützenschnur Marksmanship Lanyard, Grade 1.

What is the value of these Lanyards these days?

        Thanks!

They run about $100, give or take a few dollars. Of course asking and getting are 2 different things. There are many lanyard for sale all over dealer sites. Yours is in very nice condition and does not have the protective strip on the reverse.
