    Silver JFS CCC

My latest Gablonz badge, originally posted by hunmilitaria here - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=826881. Here it is after a vaseline bath. Photos taken in full direct south Alabama sunshine, so it probably looks a bit more worn than it does in regular light. My first silver Gablonz CCC and hopefully not my last.

        Hi Dale,

Great addition. Very hard clasp to find in the Silver grade, and you landed a beauty with lots of original finish remaining. Sweet score my friend.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Vaseline helps arrest the progression of zincpest. But it won't stop it. Not that Dale's NKA has it, a lot of collectors use vaseline on near enough all their zinc awards. Stewy

Thank you Stewy. Sorry to be a pain, but there actually seems to be a reversal than an arrest in oxidation. How does the restoration (partial) of the finish happen?

Hi Paul, believe me there's no reversing zinc pest. Others out there can probably explain better than me. But how I understand it is. The Vaseline coats it & stops oxidation (due to the film of "Vas"). It's not a one fix application, Vaseline needs to be applied from time to time. Maybe it appears to restore the finish, but it doesn't. Sorry mate, that's about all I can tell you. Stewy
