    Hi ,

    The best book i have on 1957 awards is :

    the collectors guide to 1957 pattern german awards by Jamie Cross and Gordon Williamson .
    It has pictures of the awards and what to look for on the early and late ones . Was published in 2000 so might be hard to get now .

    I think also why we are seeing a rise in fake 1957 awards is due in part to he excellent work on this site in the field of fake WW2 awards , it is easier now for some to de-nazify fake awards and to sell them as 1957 . I bought a luftwaffe sea battle badge of ebay sold as a 1957 , but when i received it it was a fake WW2 that had the swastika cut off , the eagle was all wrong .

        Information on 1957 awards is scarce and vague. Basically I would classify them as follows:
        1. Early 1957 awards using wartime material
        2. Early 1957 awards using wartime construction techniques with maybe some parts still being wartime leftovers
        3. 1957 awards made out of new material and of acceptable quality
        4. 1957 awards made of inferior material and cheap looking quality
        5. De-nazified fakes sold as 1957 awards
        Do the others agree with me?

            1957 awards made out of new material and of acceptable quality
            ( 70,s sold to vets )

            1957 awards made of inferior material and cheap looking quality
            ( 80,s onwards sold to collectors )

            De-nazified fakes sold as 1957 awards
