Since I haven't handled this yet I have to ask if cupal is now being used for reproductions?

I don't think that is cupal. Looks like it has brass in it from the photos, to me anyways. If you had the weight that would tell a lot.

......If I remember correctly the answer to your question is yes. Cupal, or a good facsimile, has been detected in FAKE badges. It has been a number of years since I read that here.

I don't think its made from cupal, but as William says a quick weight would tell us for sure. 10+/-grams and its cupal, 25+ grams and its not.

Unfortunately I won't see it until November at my first "winter" show of the season in Ft. Myers, Fl. I'll have to report back on it then.

The metal is immaterial. The badge is a fake.

I agree that the posted badge is a fake. It is not a new fake either, but one that has been around for a couple of decades. The badge is not lightweight and will actually be quite hefty. These are usually found to be made of brass or brass-like base metal as William mentions.
