    unmarked solid zinc GWL IAB

    Hi guys,

I would like to show you something special. In general all solid zinc IABs mady by GWL have a maker mark, but not this one. I can't say for sure if it was a production failure or if somebody scratched off the maker mark, but I'm 100% convinced that the finish is original GWL and that it is factory made.

I hope you like it and opinions are welcome!

    BR

          Hi Sven,

Very interesting and unusual example. Thanks for posting it. The finish certainly looks original to me.

          Best regards,

Could it be Frankie and company ludenscheid...although GWL marks there badges in zinc on the upper right area, they mark them higher to the right....Frankie and co. Has a larger mark . And is about where this badge appears to have had the MM removed.....at least it appears it has been ground long ago in the area where that maker marks them.

              Hi guys,

thanks for your comments, much appreciated!!!

@juoneen: It's for sure a GWL IAB. FCL IABs look completely different!

                Hi Sven

Congrats on adding this interesting example...

I too, think the finish is original and the removal of the GWL maker mark looks to have been purposely done.

I'm wondering if this was reprocessed for another company?

Anyways, very nice addition my friend!

                Best Regards, fischer

                  Hi Don,

thanks for your comment, much appreciated!
Reprocessing for another company also could be a reason, why there is no maker mark. We know the RC marked GWL awards. Maybe they wanted to make it better this time and not just marking it over the GWL mark?

                  Any other comments?

The IAB shows typical midwar mass construction technic (integrated catch and hook) which was teached to alot of makers after it was inveted by Klein & Quenzer.

I think the GWL design was given to certain other makers which produced based on their design and knowledge. It leads me to the conclusion that we can't be sure who made a certain badge if it has no maker mark and name them as unmarked piece of maker xy could be wrong.
                    Best regards, Andreas

                      Hi Andreas,

I know what you mean, but this IAB in GWL design is so far the only unmarked example I've ever seen. That's why I wrote unmarked GWL IAB and not IAB in GWL design.
Don't you think there would be others, if they would be produced by another maker?

                        Hi sven,

Maybe your badge is a bad example for my overall thinking about unmarked badge's. It could be possible that your badge was some sort of test strike for the design and tool before they started the mass production with the GWL marked final tools.

The future will show if we see some more of them or not... now the hunt is opened and think several collectors will look for them :-)
                        Best regards, Andreas

                          Hi guys,

I see it the same, looks like the maker mark was there but obliterated. I also like the look of the finish and doesn't look messed-with at all, so I have to think it was done in the factory by GWL for some reason. Otherwise, a textbook badge and very nice addition Sven.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
