I am assuming it is cupal. There are 2 very slight nicks on the edges which reveal a silver base.

      back to the ratisbon badge...

Any idea what maker would this be?

Very unique badge in a finish I haven't quite seen. Imo this is a period piece, but I am unable to put my finger on which maker it is. Perhaps our esteemed members can help shed some light.

There's one that showed on a recent auction and it looks "too good to be true" but I could be wrong...

The design is of an unmarked Frank & Reif in my opinion.

But as already mentioned, the finish looks a little strange, and I have not seen that flat stock catch on another of these before.
I am pretty sure that this exact badge was sold on a main dealer site in the recent past.

            best regards

it looks repainted to me but I am far from an expert.
              looks more like copper.

                Hi guys,

I too don't like the look of the bronze finish on that unmarked Frank and Reif and feel it is refinished. Here is one of mine that I consider pretty minty and what the original bronze finish should like like on these.

Graeme, good eye on the catch. I agree that its not one we typically see on unmarked F&Rs and can't find another one like it in my files. The catch itself has good traits on it for being wartime IMO, but could very well be a clever repair and was refinished to hide this fact.

                  Hi Thomas

Thanks for showing us your PAB as the others have.

It looks too good to be true. Could it have been a silver or bronze PAB that lost all its finish and then underwent a massive clean up such that the underlying copper is now showing and looking so clean as it is now?

I mean, the color does look copperish and copper is sometimes applied to help silver stick better.

You can see paint chipping off the pin.

Tom your badge has finish like I would expect to see.
