Daniel is correct. It is generally believed that Mayer applied his stamp to the pins of badges that were acquired from Schickle when they were forced to relinquish their manufacturing privileges, and remaining stocks.

That's the exact same badge. I searched all over for another example and never found one. This variant is vastly rarer than the typically encountered L/18.

Sure is, didn't recognize it until you said it. You are right, its the only Schickle I have on file with the L/18 mark, not as often seen as their IABs and PABs.

Great badge with very nice patina and wear.

I especially love the bronze Petz & Lorenz and the tombak screwback Deumer. I've never seen them before - just outstanding!!!

The L/18 with the cuts under the swastika is known like that. Please find attached another example. But of course you are right - they are much more rare, than the examples without the cut, even if they are already very rare as well.

Are you saying there are Schickle GAB with no cutout under the swastika? I thought that was the defining feature of a Schickle GAB (cutout swastika) and the difference between a Petz & Lorenz (no cut out under the swastika).

not at all. I was just talking about the L/18 marked GABs in general (who ever they made). In my opinion they are really rare and if you compare the two L/18 makred examples, the one with the cut under the swastika is even more rare, than the example without the cut. I didn't want to say anything about the maker.

Just FYI, the cutouts or lack there of under the swastika isn't the only difference between the Petz & Lorenz and the Schickle GABs, they used different obverse dies.
