        Hi JMC,

Thanks for the closeups, I think they help alot. With that reverse hardware setup, I think we are look at a good Meybauer badge here. At first I didn't recognize the obverse design with the zinc pest, however now that I see the hardware I can see its a good Meybauer. The hand-trimmed wing separating it from the gun barrel is another Meybauer trait.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          Hi Tom,
As always many thanks for your help. I was a little concerned with the breech and wing area.

Here's the rest of the group, I just wish there were more badges in there!

I agree with Tom. For me this badge is original, probably Meybauer manufactured. A rare badge.

Vaseline and pronto! Why concerned with the wing? It's 100% original.

Not sure about this Meybauer thing (I think it is pretty clear that maker connections through the hardware alone are rather unsubstantiated), but it looks like a nice original to me.

A good badge for me too, and indeed a very nice SS collar tabs group!

I agree, it would be foolish to connect a maker based on just the hardware alone. These can also be found maker marked, so not much of a mystery here. There is a good article in Dietrich's IMC magazine about these, I highly recommend it

JMC, as Nick says, a good vaseline treatment would be good for this badge IMO. Although it looks more dirty than zinc-pesty, so maybe try to clean off the dirt in the crevices first, then wipe it down with some vaseline and it will look much better.

                      Hi Tom,
I decided to just give her a light dry brushing with a very fine baby tooth brush. There is actually a small amount of "silvering" left where the grime was.

It doesn't look like there is any active zinc pest but I will keep an eye out just in case.

I think she has a fairly pleasant look now without the dirt.

                      Thanks again

Nice Flak Jim! You did well fixing it up!

You know, when I get a vet lot with a dozen badges and one SS tab I say to myself "I only wish there was more tabs in the lot". Lol, damn these problems we have!!
