no worry! Everything is fine with it! Its maybe cleaned but nothing more! You can see same finish by much minty early Tombak badges. also on the back.

It's a decent day here in Germany and I'm going to snap a few pics and get them up in a few. If if if it was cleaned does that hurt the value in these things? Patina returns with time but it's something I need to know as that will effect what I pay for badges. I'm sorry for all of these questions but badges are a fricken nightmare mine field to me. I almost hate buying the damn things but know there is a market and other people dig them. So I buy what I can when I can. Anyways pics in a bit, house cleaning and kids need lunch first. Matt

          Hi Matt,

I personally would not buy aggressively cleaned badges, to me they lost their significance. But a lot of inexperienced collectors gladly buy these a "mint" badges, as long as they are bright and shiny. Sad but true. You are right, the patina will come back and it is still a desirable badge imo, so value might be a little lower than the non cleaned pieces.

          Regards,

          Daniel

            Daniel,

Its an interesting point, again its how it came this weekend and I can only vouche for the history of the piece since I bought it. At the end of the day its a killer looking piece and regardless the dark patina will return but cool to see it like when it rolled out of the factory early in the war.

Here are a couple of additional pics that show the marks to the lower part of the badge and where someone scraped at it to see if it was solid silver. This makes me think its not re dipped and you can see the frosting in the recesses of the leafs and the polished highlights. Matt

              Hi Matt,

awesome pic, the badge was definitely (!) not refinished, just a bit polished. Again, a sweet and desirable badge. The patina will come back, imo nothing to worry about.

              Regards,

              Daniel

                  Hi Matt

I agree with Daniel, your Wurster has been cleaned & polished, but the finish is original.

                  Best Regards, fischer

Like i said too, very nice 100 % Original finish. I would pay full price, maybe it was cleaned but no problem, its rare and super nice in this condition with nearly full silver finish - maybe never or just short time worn

                      Hi Matt,

Thanks for the new pics, the finish looks much better with this lighting. And as you can see, there are indeed worn highlights even on such a minty example like the other one I posted last night which is what you want to see. Although its cleaned, it is still a great looking badge and very desirable IMO.

Thanks gentlemen. I'm glad it's good to go, still can't figure out why it would be cleaned up when the other stuff was just left alone but it's a same good looking badge. If I was a badge guy it would be a keeper, sadly I just pick them up to move them along. I'll have to check around and see what they go for but it will end up on the WAF in the near future. I do appreciate everyone's input on it, always something new to learn in this hobby. Matt
