      Hi Steve

      I think it looks original.

The hinge and catch should be crimped in.

The catch area on yours looks to have some solder and maybe the hinge area. Pics of the hinge and catch areas would help determine if your badge has had some repairs.

      best regards
      Graeme

Hi steve, looks like an original, the zinc "weathering" looks consistent with similar iab from this maker. I suspect the clasp might be repaired, but it still doesn't take anything away from this badge.

          Hi Steve,

I say original as well. And it does look like the catch has been repaired. Here is another badge by BrĂ¼der Schneider, Wien for comparison.

          Best regards,
          Tomk

            Hi Steve,

As the others have said, a fine original BSW IAB in very nice condition with lots of original finish remaining.

The catch does appear to have a good amount of solder on it, but also looks to have the original silver finish on it as well, so could very well be a factory-done job if the crimping tool failed or if the crimp didn't cover the catchplate properly. We see quite a bit of these "factory repairs" later in the war as the crimping tools the companies used started to fail and the makers added some solder to strengthen the bond. Here is one of my F&CL IABs with additional solder patch done to strengthen the hinge crimping.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
