    Unusual CCC in Gold

What do you guys think about this CCC in gold? It has a very unusual backplate setup.

I would think that the clasp in itself is OK. I would not be so sure about the gold colour though. Notice how the back is just plain grey zinc and the pin is bronze coloured.

              Number of Gold CCC's Made?

              Gentlemen,

Not to digress, but does anyone have a rough idea of the number of Gold CCC's that were awarded? Based on my readings it seems that it was a very limited issue award which would make finding an authentic one rare indeed.

              Thanks,

              John Kelley

John, the number of awards is not relevent, the number produced is. What was the basic unit of production, 1000, 10000, etc...
I think only 600+ were ever awarded.

Don, I thought that I read somewhere that less than 500 of these gold CCC's were awarded. I may be wrong on this though. Anyway, I have to agree with the others that this "gold" CCC is suspect to say the least. I do not like the back on it at all. Just MHO.

Brian, I don't have a reference buy I've always heard it was in the 600 neighborhood. Still quite rare to find an issued one with provenence. They had to produce a whole lot more though, which is why I think you can find so many mint ones.

Thanks for the info on the Gold CCC issue/manufacture number. My thought was that if only several hundred were issued the probability of finding a genuine one would be rare indeed. Of course if they had a production run that was significantly greater than that then my thought no longer holds.

                      Thanks,

                      John Kelley

I've seen perhaps three or four gold CCC's for sale on Detlev's site over the years. If I remember correctly, most, if not all, were tombak. Does anyone have any hard evidence that zinc versions were truly produced and awarded? I know there are a lot of zinc examples brought to the forum in the past but, how sure are we that zincs are original period pieces? I've wanted to clear up this question in my mind for a long time. I don't have any reason to believe that zinc peices are not original, and I am not saying that they are but, I have just read in the past that ALL 'golds' were tombak. Can anyone shed some light on this? I mean, if Adolf himself awarded every one of the 500-600 in person, one would think that it would have been manufactured out of something better than zinc. How many MOH's were made out of pewter?

I have the reference book of known holders. There were a little over 700, including three from the Luftwaffe.

In the early times they were made of tombak, but later on they were made of zink.
Hitler did not awarded each of them. Also Himmler, Guderian and some other commander awarded them.
