    Bronze General Assault Badges

These are woodwork pieces of which I have found a few, over the years, from my ads. They are factory finishes.

I have wondered if they are prototypes for the awards for grenadiers or just factory errors in plating. They appear to be unused, so it is possible they just sat in factories until liberated by souvenir hunting GIs.

    Amy information is appreciated.

    Hello Bob,

in my opinion these are silver pieces, that show the copper coating underneath the worn off silvering.

    Regards,

They are absolutely in unworn and mint condition. It is pssible they only received a base coat and were never silvered. My other wilvered examples, of these same makers, do not show a bronze base coat under the silver finish. There is not a single trace of any silvering to either badge. I have hundreds of assaukt badges, so I am familiar with the finishes of these makers.

These are certainly not the only examples that I have owned and seen in bronze finish. I will have to go through my badges and see if I have any more. It will give me a chance to see them all again.

I have always wondered if they were plated bronze by accident. Panzer and Infantry Assault Badges came in silver and bronze finish and it may be pissible they were just plated by factory workers who incorrectly thought to have the badges in both colors. It is only speculation, but possible.

Your not alone with your wondering question. There are indeed more GAB's that have an unexplainable bronze finish without the slightest trace of silver. It's a weird thing but they seem to exist.

I've seen several of these bronze badges. By far the Assmann mold #1 being the most common. The two pictured look like the common silver finish to me. I'd like to see a few pictures in natural sunlight. The lighting and background could be affecting the appearance of the badges. Both are very nice either way!
