    Hi guys,

I understand that this IAB could be a bad one?

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

          Hi Allan

          What are your concerns?

I agree with the other guys that this looks good, and in nice condition.

It appears to have many traits of an original. Your pics have a lot of light or flash, maybe pics with a more natural appearance will be helpful

          cheers

            Thanks Guys.

I received the PM below from a member following my posting the IAB and carton here

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...05#post6696405

            It didn't come from Hero

"could you please post your JFS IAB set in the Heer section?
I would like to hear some comments about it.

Sorry to say, but I have some doubts about it. There are some areas (maker mark, attachment of the hinge, finish) which are different compared to other examples I know. Furthermore the first time I saw this set, it was sold from Hero and that's why I'm not sure if we it's not a very dangerous hero fake."

                    Hi guys,

it was me who contacted Allan because of this IAB. Thanks for posting it here Allan! I don't want to put this IAB down in any way, I'm just interested in further opinions!

Now I would like to explain you, why I have some doubts about it:
I saw such a set with exactly the same box and the same areas which are in my opinion a little bit different (I will come to them later) compared to other examples three times for sale in the last two months. Unfortunately I didn't save any picture of them, so I can't say for sure if it was alway the same set or if I saw three different ones.
The first time I saw it, it was for sale at the hero auction site. The next one was for sale on another dealer site who is also known for selling fakes from time to time and the last time it was for sale from an accepted and well respected dealer where I think this set came from this time.

If I compare this JFS IAB with my example and some other one I have on file, there is a difference on the attachment of the hinge in my opinion. On all other examples I know, the attachment is absolutly round like a circle. Furthermore in my opinion the "S" of the maker mark is a little bit thicker on my example than on this one. Please have a look on my comparision pics. Also the finish differs a little bit to other examples I know in my opinion. It looks brightend up for me (could also be cleanded, I don't know).

In general I would not have any doubts about it, because I think the differences could also be from the production process, but when I see something for sale from Hero, I'm always sceptical, even if I know that he sells good stuff at well.

If there is no reason for my concerns I'm absolutly happy and I just can agree with the others, that it is a very nice IAB!!! But please have a closer look, not that we see a new very dangerous fake, where we don't realize that it is really a fake.

I hope to hear some further comments and as I said, I really don't want to put this nice IAB down, if it's a good one!!!

                    Best regards
                    Sven

Sven and I talked about this one yesterday, and I too thought it looked fine. It has definitely been cleaned, but other than that I think its a fine original. The Hero sells 95% fakes, but the other 5% are fine originals. These are usually the ones he uses to make his fakes from, but there are originals on his site from time to time.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I see no big problems with this one...
I would say some variation even in one manufacturer is normal within reason.
                        A very nice IAB!

                          Hi Guys

I have a divided opinion on this one.

In comparing the badge obverse, I do not see any wreath, vein pattern details that differ from accepted originals.
I've looked for zinc bubble patterns that might replicate on other Hero attributed JFS solids and did not find any similarities.

I did see this example when it was posted on the Hero site and as stated by Sven and others, this alone is a red flag.
The reverse hinge crimp area is asymmetrical and has indentations in the skirt that secures the hinge to the reverse.
Again, when compared to known originals this does not look correct.

Here is a compare pic of the badge in question and one of mine.
Also, for discussion purposes here are pics of the hinge from the Hero site.

                          Best regards, fischer

PS. Could you post close up pics of the catch area with the pin open when you have an opportunity?

                            Hi Guys......

......Looking at the 4 images Fischer's posted it seems to me that we are looking at the exact same badge. The badge in the upper left image(the one posted by Allan) and the lower right image(Hero) sure appear to be one and the same.

If I am understanding this correctly they are one in the same, as the badge was sold off the Hero site...
