Glad to hear its a solid example, any ideas on what the actual value of a PAB like this would go for? Ive gotten a couple of PMs about it and the offer range has been all over the place.. feel free to pm me if you don't want to throw an approx value out there. I will be selling it shortly, i just can't keep it all. Matt

I just wanted to bring this up again to ask the question of whether or not this is the first example in bronze anyone has seen. Another website shows that this version only exists in silver. Is that true?

The tombak versions have only been found in silver. This is a zinc badge.

No argument from me, but the posting in the database was done by the author of the book on PABs, and he clearly states that both the tombak and zinc versions of this A.S. (versus the .A.S) PAB are only found in silver. The posting is seven years old, so maybe things have changed.

Okay. I understand what you are saying now. For me, I only see a "A.S" I can't see a dot either before the "A" of after the "S" from these pictures. Maybe with clearer photos of the maker mark this will clear up. Good eye.

I think I see a hint of it, and Matt replied earlier in the thread that there might be a faint mark where the period should be. Maybe it was just a faint strike, but I think it's there versus this being a completely new version. I don't think so, however, as I can't find any differences on the obverse when compared to the one in the other database, but my eye for that sort of detailed analysis is limited.

                              Matt,
I can't see any period, either before the A or after the S, so I have no clue on which mark it is supposed to be (A.S. or .A.S) or whether it's a completely new version. If it's A.S., then this may be the first one seen in bronze as previous ones (both tombak and zinc) are supposedly only found in silver.
Wish I could help more but it's going to take someone with a better eye than I to compare the obverses for differences.

                                Dale,

I appreciate your comments, I don't see any . at all after the S. There is a small bubble behind it but no definitive . that I can make out and thats looking with my loop as well. Its a interesting PAB for sure. Matt
