    Silver PAB

I have a Silver PAB that I question its originality.
    Wt 32.0g
    Ht 59.9 mm
    Width 41.8 mm

I welcome any assessments the members can make, understanding the limits of doing so from images and not hands on.

    Hi Tim,

I can understand your concerns with the badge in question. The badge has an overall "soft" look to it. I'm a bit concerned with the measurements as well. Both the height and width dimensions seem a bit small and that could indicate a casting made off an original. But, on the other hand, the badge looks pretty good in some respects. I am doubtful of its originality, but I suppose it could be just a worn original. For me this is a hard call based on these pictures. I would want to have this one in-hand. Lets see what others have to say.

    Best regards,
    Tom

Here is an unmarked Frank & Reif that I have for comparison.

    60.23mm high X 42.30mm wide and a weight of 34.2 grams

Tom, Thanks for looking the badge over.

I too am concerned about the "soft" look of the badge's features. Is that softness due to a heavy finish or because it is a casting off of an original?

The hinge, catch, and pin look similar to those on your badge.

Note the 2 vertical lines above the hinge - possibly made when the hinge center was cut off while the hinge was already affixed to the back of the badge.

This one appears to be a well made cast copy for me.

I agree with Chris as it looks to be a very well made cast copy.

                Hello Tim,

I would give it a (shaky) thumbs up at the moment. Could you do a close up shot, where the curvy part of the needle hits the base metal near the hinge?

                Regards,

                Daniel
