    Hi,
I personally have never liked the type of badge that started the thread ,but how good are the wartime photos to distinguish individual makers from one another? or do you guys have super eyesight? while were on about photos in wear are there any photos of gold CCC's with top hook in wear? iv'e never liked those either.

      Hi Tom,

Yes, that horse is dead. All truisms aside, we're still no further ahead. But I think it's important to remain on the fence and not take either side as proven at the moment. And that's why Gordon's certificate is not technically incorrect -- he leaves things open by using terms like "probably" and "supporting the theory".

The same applies to all of S&L's zinc KM badges - U-Boats, Minesweepers, Coastal Artillery badges, Fleet badges and Auxiliary Cruisers. Some could be wartime while a bunch could be post-war leftovers or even post-war struck on original tooling, but we don't just assume they're all post-war (even though it's possible). I have yet to see a convincing German vet's grouping with any of those badges although they're common and appear on the Lüdenscheid souvenir boards. Martin's uncle brought back an S&L zinc Auxiliary Cruiser from the early post-war period so they were at least around during the occupation. The same could be said (rightly or wrongly) about the APBs with the setup being discussed here.

I don't think anyone is going to say "throw out all your S&L zincers, they're valueless as collectors' items" (except maybe Chet ). We take them as they are with their inherent controversies, and value them accordingly. Hard-core wartime collectors may choose to throw out the baby with the bathwater, but others are happy to have an S&L zincer in the bunch. A matter of personal preference.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

Hi guys... After reading your posts ..and thank you by the way....
I have decided to return the badge ( hope i dont regret this later in life).
When i part with my cash i want a beyond a shadow of a doubt third reich item.. I see there is a lot of grey area attached to this piece.
Maybe real.. Maybe just outside the time parameter... Cant be proven.
If it was a badge that cost a few hundred then maybe i would take the risk but i reveal the paid price was £2900 on the dot.
I will leave my money in the shop as the dealer who i always use has some super stuff in and i'm sure something will come along soon that will geab my fancy..
        Many thanks again
        Brian

One last question... Price apart... Would any of you have this badge in your collection ??

In regards to your question 'Would any of you have this badge
in your collection?' I take it you are meaning to ask if we would
take that badge you "had" into our collection as a piece we
          would accept.

Definitely not! While trying to help you out earlier in the thread
I missed telling you that I personally & others in our collecting
area back in the early 80's wouldn't consider these things at all.
No one brought one to offer for sale or trade if they ended-up
with one from a trade. No one would put one on their table for
sale because it wouldn't have sold.

They weren't worth "diddly"! Out of roughly 200 'TR' collectors
in our area, not one would pick-up that piece (solid back), & our
price range back then was only around $20.00 for a Panzer Assault,
$18.00 for an Infantry or General Assault & Iron Crosses 1st Class
          were only $25.00

The last time I handled 2 Anti-partisan badges (Gold), was about
          1993, I traded 2 - W-SS 'skull' buttons (early Feldgrau finishes) &
1 "Feldgendarmerie" bevo woven cuff title for 1 "AP" badge. I don't
know what the cuff title went for after but, Steven Wolfe bought the
buttons for $300.00 each. These "AP"s were nice "hollow-backed" ones
with no issues other than 'faded' finishes.

          Just take your time.

I agree...I went to many shows back then and you would see 5 to 8 of this very type of badge for sale as real ww2 and as copy.I bought one(silver) for a filler and paid $35 for it.

Interesting historical perspective on badge values in the past. So an IAB cost $18, EK1 cost $25 and this APB would cost $35. Those were the days!

                Best regards,

                  Those were the days!

Panzer Assaults (whatever color/maker mark or not), were $20.00
if the finish was really nice....That was even the 'brass' ones & the
'hollow-backs' were a few dollars less.

That's how I could afford to have a 'Panzer Assault' Badge collection
of 104 of them & all the 'numbered' versions as well. Jack Angolia
even asked me if I where 'cornering the market' on them.

Sounds like your pretty happy with it & its often with differing opinions when posted on the forum, some very knowing collectors seem to have given their views to say 50% - 50% war time made / post war.

For that amount of money I would want to be dead sure it was war time made with significant pictures & weigh up the evidence to commit.

                      Hi Guys.......

.......I love it when we get a chance to talk prices of yester year. It wasn't that terribly long ago that a IAB was offered for $25 on this site(Back in the late 90's).

However, in the 60's combat badges were $5-10. Visors $15-30. I could go on, but no need to. TR stuff was uninteresting to collectors in general. It was all branded Nazi stuff war souvenirs. The gun shops, and pawn stores, were loaded with TR throughout the 50's & 60's.

For that matter Army/Navy Surplus stores were everywhere, and almost every conceivable type of U.S. stuff was available for pennies on the dollar. Bins, and bins and........
