    PAB 50 JFS Question

    All:
Have the photographed PAB 50 by JFS. Upon inspection have found this badge to be typical JFS construction in every way. However, have noticed a "shiny" substance in the catch crimp area. Also noticed the catch is not magnetic, the pin and hinge are magnetic. Any thoughts on the non magnetic catch and substance in the catch crimp area?

I agree, it's nice looking Pab. About substance in the catch crimp area - is it a glue?!?! For sure it's not production system.

Oscar, not sure what the substance is. Does not glow under uv light. Suppose somebody could have tried to tighten the catch with glue?? , they were very neat about it if that is what happened. It could be anything. Did not even notice it until I inspected with a digital microscope. As these badges are difficult to come by in this shape, keeping it.

Rather difficult to see exactly where your closeup pictures of the glue is located. Is it inside at the base of where the catch is planted? Or outside along the edge of the round catch plate.

Looks to me like a repair with glue and a touch up. The while finish looks a little different that the rest of the badge??

                        Darrell:
The substance is down inside the catch crimp area. Regarding a white area, just a light issue with the photo, when viewed under normal light, the area is silver and matches the rest of the badge. When I look at it under really bright light, it has a golden/yellow color. The only theory I have is that maybe the catch was loose and somebody tried to tighten it with glue? Or something was just spilled on it over the last 70 years. Who knows???

It seems too perfect to be an "accident". Then again, I don't know how someone could do that with glue and be so neat?

The catch indeed looks not repaired but please post pics from #3 without pin and in better resolution, ty. Don't panic.
