These look quite strange for me, especially silvering. Let's wait for our PAB guru's to say something.

I think they look strange because they have been cleaned up with Tarn X or something similar. But other than that they look like fine originals from this distance.

I agree with Tom, the typical Tarn-X look. For me totally ruined pieces nothing special about them, but if somebody likes this sterile look of these badges, buy ´em...

PS: Dipping badges in this sh*t, does not make them mint. Just for the starters...

I did not clean, tip it in **** or similar with one of these badges, but maybe your are right...you should hold it in hands, then you can see that they are not messed with, but that`s only a starter opinion ....

              regards Jürgen

Thomas, aren't these PAB's should be in frost silvering, like Deumer and Hymmen PABs which also come from Ludensheid?

Rav, I don't say you cleaned them or something. I just said that this items look suspicious by only this photos. I never met such a type of silvering on BM PABs. I'd be happy if I'm wrong about them.

                  I hold them in hands.
But now, when the experts say they are cleaned, its better i sold my colletion and start to knit.

Cleaned or not they are still fantastic PAB's in my book.

                    Regards,

                      Hi Heydrich,

Yes, you are exactly right, Schauerte & Hohfeld frosted their IABs and PABs, and then burnished the highlights such as the swastika. If these badges were a little closer, I am sure you would see remnants of this frosting. On the one badge that is shown close up, you can see the frosting in between the eagle's talons.

Tarn-X doesn't really remove this frosting. However, what it does do is give the entire badge a "clouded" look and that turns some collectors off. It doesn't ruin the badge IMO, but it removes every vestige of patina that took decades to acquire.....and the clouded appearance gives it an un-natural look. Personally, I like the patina look, as long as its not completely black and I can understand why people don't want their badges totally cleaned and blitzed with Tarn-X.

                            Hi Thomas!

I never had any doubts in your knowledge, and of course you taught me some useful things about badges at old good times when I was a real newbie

So if you don't see anything criminal with these badges, I can only agree with you. And of course, this type of cleaning is quite cruel. And looking at good relief and all finish still intact I bet that this badges also were good even before cleaning.

But to be honest, these photos made me confused, and it would be great to see these badges on more sharp and detailed pictures. I think they are worth of it.

                              Hi guys

Well, I think you guys are all wrong this time. This German hoard find was only very recently found and completely intact as they were perfectly stocked. All of the S&H pieces were in prestine frosty condition. What you see here are no tarn-X pieces, by far not!!! Call it Time Machine pieces ... or simply don't believe in them
