AS in triangle silver PAB does this pin look OK??

Before I add this to the "permanent collection" I just wanted to make sure it looked all OK. The badge seems very good but I have not experienced such a thin pin on an award of this type. I tried to look a bit for originals through searching on here but didn't find much.

Thanks for any input.. I'd like to get this in my display! It's very 3D!!

    Thanks!

A common occurrence by this maker.

        Thank you, sir.
Seems like if worn in the field the pin would just give out!

          Hi Brian,

The pin does look a tad thin, but the badge doesn't look too badly worn so I would be surprised to find it was a replacement. A shot of the hinge with the pin open so we can see the tension foot would tell us for sure. It probably is a replacement, but doesn't look too bad from this angle.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

It doesn't look like a thicker pin would even fit in the hinge...

              any more comments?

the pin sure looks original to me, though I am far from an expert.

Hi Brian, I think the pin is a replacement. It does look a little thin. The hinge pin looks like it has been messed with IMO. Just my shillings worth. Nice PKA none the less. Stewy

I agree, the pin appears to be a little on the thin side. I only have a bronze version but it appears to have a flat top to the hinge ball as well.

The hinge itself is obviously different. . Look at the crimp around it, goes all the way down to the makers mark.

Chet says he's seen other originals with the same thin pin?

Looking at the hinge nothing on it seems "messed with".

Sorry, it doesn't, poor photo to make that assessment.

                        Hi Brian

It looks to be a very nice example, but I also feel that the pin is likely replaced.

The open pin shot that you provided shows the tension foot, and imo this is not like other pins for this maker. The tension foot normally is bent back on itself. I will provide a pic of how I think it should be. The badge is a similar variant to yours, and also a closed pin shot showing the thickness of my pin.

Also can you check around the catch area, specifically to the right. There looks to be a small scrape mark that is made by the pin when opening. If yours does have a scrape, from your pics, it does not appear to tie in with the long pin. I will show a pic of one of mine to explain it better, although this is a different variant to yours.

                        best regards
                        Graeme

Here is the variant badge, with the catch area to look at.

Does your badge have a scrape mark?

                          regards

                            Graeme,
I haven't been ignoring you... and I appreciate your input very much!

I finally had some time to take a closer look at the pin areas and take some better photos.

The only wear I can find seems to be consistent with this being the original pin. There is no scrape by the catch and the crook end fits the only wear spot in the finish perfectly. I do value everyone's opinion.. and Chet has stated he has seen other originals with this type of pin. I can't imagine there would have been multiple repair jobs on the same maker's PAB utilizing the same pin?

                            Maybe these pictures will help?
Tapatalk seems to he downgrading in quality my photos... When you click the link are they better and at full resolution? ?

Looking at my photos I do see what you are seeing that looks like a scrape but this is a shadow. Here is an even better photo showing catch area.

                              Thanks,
                              - Brian
