    Hi Jeff,

    Thanks for posting your badge. As you probaly noticed yourself your badge has a completely different design, a design that was also used by Fo, RS, and on the pillow crimp IAB.

    So why would WH at the same time be using another design, the one used on the MK series, by Zimmermann, AS in triangle and MK in triangle. Bizar

      I personally do not like that badge at all. Whilst the front is of a known design the back really does not do it for me. I have never seen that exact type of hinge on an original badge. Have you tested whether or not its magnetic? It doesn't look like a zinc badge to me. The detail is very good, I am thinking it could be some type of laser cut copy.

        i found this pic in my reference files, the pic is not mine and i can´t remember who the owner is. I hope the owner don´t mind me posting it here. This is clearly 2 different designs of WH marked IABS.

          WH IABs are no mystery:

          -the accepted design (and reverse setup) is the one Jeff shows. On Hans´pics it is on the right.

          -the badge that started this thread is not a WH (why should it be?).

          -the WH badge on the left in Hans´ pics is regarded as a reproduction by many collectors. I e.g. would not have one in my collection. I personally only accept the badge type shown by Jeff as the textbook WH. It shares the same design as other Vienna based makers (fo, R.S.), as Philippe stated.

          -There is ANOTHER WH marked repro which has the MK design.

              Where do you read that? It looks original to me, but it seems that the maker remains unknown for now. Of course, with an unknown badge there is always the slight possibility that it is a fake.

                  It does have the same design as the badge in question, however that is a known design also to be found on many originals. It does not make "ulrichrudel"´s badge a fake automatically.

                      In the first IAB, the eagle has "balls" on the feet. In the second picture there aren't any. I'm certainly not an expert, but I've always stayed away from IAB's that have that feature cause they are known to be fakes. I wouldn't be surprised now if someone proves me wrong.

                        I always thought that it was best to leave any IAB alone that wasn't vaulted?

                        Is the one that is the topic of this thread vaulted?

                        Also, let's clear up this amazing "laser cutting" process which is supposed to be able to accurately duplicate any shape (i.e. award): "Laser cutting" is simply a cutting process - it is strictly for TWO DIMENSIONAL shapes - it can only be used to duplicate an outline. It cannot be used to duplicate a three dimensional surface.

                          Yep Frank that's the badge I had in mind. I just find it very strange that of all possible set-ups Ulrich's badge features that typical quadrangle hinge box only to be found on these fake WH's , in combination with the same design. Just something that makes me a bit suspicious.
