bronze small w IAB, and OVW PAB

    Hi,

I'm not normally a collector of this sort of item but found these at an estate auction. My feeling is that they are good but would like a review to confirm.

I believe this is a small W marked bronze IAB made by Wurster:

PAB also I believe made by Wurster:

Thanks for looking and all comments are welcome!

Yes, both good. Lots of examples here to compare with.

BTW Steve... The IAB appears to be a silver grade, with most of the silver finish gone to time, leaving much of the base metal (brass) exposed. The other is a zinc based silver grade PAB --IMO.

          Thanks Ken!

I agree with your opinion the PAB being silver, I think the IAB is bronze though. The bronze wash has some chips(?) exposing some of the base metal, this is mostly on the rifle if you look closely. I'm not much of a badge collector so maybe I am wrong.

HTF badge, regardless, but the patina on the IAB is consistent (to my eye), with the silver grade, by the maker Wurster. You might want to go through some threads on the bronze ones which have all the bronze finish left.

No offense intended but the small "w" IAB is definately a bronze example. There is no doubt about it.

Not to my eye Chuck. Reminds me of the aging on the silver one in this thread... http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ht=wurster+iab

Here's the same type finish as with the IAB on a mint massive tombak small "w" PAB that I still own.

I'm on the fence. I saw Scott's example, so maybe I'm blinded by the light. I think a picture under natural light and some 3/4 shots would help here...

You're bronze IAB looks "right" to my eye, even with the artificial light. Take a closer look at Steve's. I see silver in there. IMO, still, a very faded silver grade.

Yes, your IAB below is a silver grade, with all of the plating remaining, but the one that started the thread, IMO, is likely a well faded/worn silver grade.

Both were in my collection at one point, but clearly illustrate how a silver plate can fade to time. Feels like I'm playing Poker, with a really good hand.
